Merveille Kelekele Kelekele is a Congolese artist living and working in Paris. Currently in his second year at Beaux-Arts de Paris, his paintings merge abstraction and figuration as an allusion to written accounts of his voyages undertaken towards and across Europe since the age of 9. Kelekele Kelekele’s work explores his personal memory and encounters during this transforming voyages as a child through teenage years. It is an attempt to tame the remains of trauma and pain from his past. His accounts are translated into an abstract visual language close to topography whereby textured forms achieved through dry brushing emerge from a red sea.
